Drinks That Will Boost Your Immune System Amid COVID-19

Keep Your Immune System Strong 

With everything that is going on during the COVID-19 outbreak, I am sure many of you start to work from home and spend more time indoors. It is crucial that everybody practices good hygiene, social distancing and staying home to “flatten the curves” . Getting home workouts, eating healthy and staying hydrated is becoming more important right now in order to keep our minds positive and our bodies healthy.  

I would like to share some nutritional drinks I have been making in the last few days to boost my energy and mood in the morning. Taking advantage of being at home allows me to make juices from immunity-enhancing ingredients is a great way to boost your body’s natural defenses.

1. Apple, carrots, and orange

Ingredients
2 large organic carrots tops trimmed
1 organic Granny Smith apple cut into quarters
1 Naval orange quartered and peeled
5 cups water
Special equipment: Juicer
 

Instructions
1. Place the ingredients into the juicer according to the manufacturer's directions.
2. Drink or place in a tightly sealed glass container and refrigerate immediately. Keeps for about two days.
3. Enjoy.

2. Ginger, lemon, and honey 

Ingredients
1 inch piece ginger root, peeled
0.5 inch lemon slice
5 cups water
1 tbsp honey, eyeball it
A quarter size lemon, juiced

Instructions
1. Slice the ginger into coins.
2. Heat the ginger, lemon slice, water in a saucepan.
3. Let the water cool down to 40-60 degrees and transfer to a mug.
4. Add honey and fresh lemon juice, then stir to marry the flavor.
5. Enjoy.

3. Spinach, lettuce, and kale

Ingredients
2 medium stalks celery
4 romaine heart leaves or 2 outer leaves
2 kale leaves
1 cup spinach
1 medium green apple
1/2 medium cucumber
1/2 lemon rind and pith removed
1 slice ginger the size of a quarter
5 cups water

Instructions
Place the ingredients into the juicer according to the manufacturer's directions and juice.

4. Homemade tomato juice

Ingredients
2 large tomatoes
500 ml water
Salt and black pepper (optional)
Chili powder (optional)

Instructions
1. Remove the core, blossom ends. Cut into quarters.
2. Place the tomatoes in a saucepan. Simmer for 30 minutes, or until they’re tender.
3. Press the tomatoes through a strainer to separate the juice.
4. Place the juice back to the saucepan and add seasoning as you like. Bring the juice to boil.
5. Enjoy.
